Let’s Talk About Housing Choice Vouchers
Gleanings provided a screening of Frontline’s Poverty, Politics, & Profit at Lifestyle Realty in Lexington, KY. Attendees with the Gleanings Board went through discussions of the gaps left for our community to fill. The Housing Choice Voucher Program will never be able to fill the number of subsidies required for all people to be housed in stable, safe, and affordable rental homes.

Through better understanding our fellow community members’ struggles (when it comes to finding affordable housing) we will increase your overall knowledge of the flaws in the U.S. housing system. There are people in this documentary with situations similar to your own or to those you are connected. To empathize, often involves taking action in one form or another. At Gleanings we are knowledgeable about this issue, and our Board is made up of some with lived experiences in fighting for housing and those with experience aiding those with the fight for housing that is affordable. Our combined experience in advocating against social stigma and the idea that housing is a commodity, used for profit, instead of a social need desperately requiring our undivided attention, is truly why this Gleanings’ event was created. Our governmental housing programs cannot fill the gaps in our housing market, find out why!
